MCC Counselling Schedule MD MS Seats and Admission Guide

By My MBBS Guide | Last updated 8 October 2026

Planning your postgraduate medical admission after NEET PG 2026? Your next step is to connect your rank with the right counselling route, specialty preferences, and college budget. A good admission plan also accounts for reporting deadlines, documents, and the consequences of accepting or leaving a seat.

The published schedule places MCC Round 1 registration from 12 October 2026, with allotment results scheduled for 24 October. The coordinated state counselling calendar begins Round 1 on 21 October. Meanwhile, the NMC has published its postgraduate seat matrix for the 2026–27 academic year. These documents serve different purposes, and understanding the distinction will help you plan correctly.

NEET PG 2026 counselling dates at a glance

The following table summarises the coordinated AIQ and state counselling schedule. Round windows cover the counselling process; treat them as counselling windows, not registration windows. Each state must publish its own detailed registration, payment, choice filling and reporting instructions.

MCC counselling and state counselling

MCC handles 50% AIQ PG seats and participating deemed, central university, and DNB routes. State authorities conduct their respective counselling processes. Eligibility for a state or institutional quota must be checked separately. [4]

Start by making a list of the portals relevant to your preferred colleges. For each portal, record the application deadline, eligibility requirements, payment amount, and document format. Registering for one counselling process should not be assumed to complete registration for another.

What the NMC PG seat matrix means for admissions

The NMC public notice dated 29 September 2026 lists postgraduate courses and approved annual intake for academic year 2026–27 as of its publication date. The notice explicitly excludes seats linked to applications to increase existing intake or start new PG courses. Subsequently approved additions will appear in an updated matrix.

The matrix may also be revised following decisions of MARB, the Appeal Committee or another competent authority. Colleges must admit students only within the approved intake shown in the latest notified matrix.

For applicants, this means an advertised seat increase or proposed new department should not be treated as an available admission option until the approval and applicable counselling entry are confirmed. Recheck the matrix before finalising your choices.

The NMC matrix is not a round-wise vacancy list. It also contains course entries beyond MD/MS, including super-specialty courses. Adding every row together would therefore not provide a reliable count of seats available through NEET PG counselling. Use the appropriate MCC or state round-wise matrix for actual choices.

Eligibility checks before registration

Check your qualification status against the applicable NEET PG 2026 result and official eligibility notices. Also verify your MBBS qualification, medical registration, and internship eligibility against the NBEMS bulletin. For state, institutional, reserved, PwBD, or NRI routes, read the specific requirements before selecting a quota.

Do not rely on a previous year’s internship deadline, qualifying score, or certificate validity rule. Check the current NBEMS bulletin and subsequent notices for the applicable 2026 criteria.

Important MCC rules for 2026

Freeze candidates accept the allotted seat without seeking an upgrade and report physically. Float candidates seek an upgrade and follow the online document verification process. Both must upload required documents. Later physical reporting is mandatory as specified in the bulletin.

Fresh choices are required for later rounds. Round 3 seats cannot be resigned; non-joining can forfeit the deposit and exclude candidates from further MCC rounds. Stray participation depends on seat-holding and prior allotment status.

Read the full reporting instructions for your situation, especially after an upgrade. Do not carry forward an older counselling procedure without checking the 2026 bulletin and any subsequent clarification.

MCC counselling fees and security deposit

Route or category

Registration fee Security deposit

AIQ UR or EWS

₹1,000 ₹25,000
AIQ SC ST OBC or PwD ₹500

₹10,000

Deemed universities ₹5,000

₹2,00,000

Registration fees are non-refundable. Security deposits are refundable subject to the rules, including forfeiture for specified non-joining or cancellation circumstances. These are counselling payments, not college tuition fees.

How to build your MD, MS, and DNB choice list

Start with specialty fit. Think about the work you want to do, the training environment you need and your willingness to relocate. Then compare departments using hospital exposure, faculty availability, resident feedback, and academic opportunities rather than relying only on a college’s overall reputation.

Prepare a comparison sheet with the course, college, quota, previous closing rank, current seats and total financial commitment. Treat historical cutoffs as a planning reference. Changes in seats, applicant preferences, and category availability can change the outcome this year.

Arrange choices in your actual order of preference. A lower preference should still be a seat you are prepared to accept. Before locking, review each option against your budget and the reporting consequences for that round.

Fees, stipend, and bonds to check before choosing a college

Request the current written fee structure and read it across the full course duration. Include tuition, hostel, deposits, examination charges, and other compulsory payments. Separately record stipend, service bond obligations, discontinuation penalties and refund terms.

A college with a lower headline fee may carry a substantial service obligation. A higher-fee option may become unaffordable once accommodation and other charges are included. Make the comparison using your own funding plan, and ask the institution to clarify ambiguous terms before you choose it.

Prepare your documents early

Use the official reporting checklist to assemble your NEET PG admit card and result, MBBS records, internship certificate, medical registration, identity and date-of-birth proof, and applicable quota certificates. Add the allotment letter once issued. Check whether additional state or institutional documents are required.

Keep readable scans and a complete set of originals. Compare names, dates, and category details across documents before the upload window. Resolve missing certificates or spelling discrepancies early so they do not become an admission-day problem.
